- Breast biopsy
- Breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- Genetic testing
- Stereotactic breast biopsy
- Ultrasound guidance
State-of-the-art mammography technology
When detected early, your chances of beating breast cancer increase. A mammogram provides one of the single most effective methods of early detection. Breast cancer responds well to early treatment—the sooner it is detected, the more successful the treatment.
Mammography can detect a breast lump as small as one-eighth of an inch. Also, breast imaging can identify abnormal growths, breast cancer, cysts, lumps and mastitis.
Coliseum Medical Centers and Coliseum Northside Hospital offer 3D mammography (also known as digital mammography) along with tomosynthesis as a way to detect abnormalities. Multiple studies have reported that 3D mammography significantly increases breast cancer detection, with a more than 40 percent increase in the detection of invasive cancers.
Benefits of a 3D mammogram
Besides early detection of breast cancer, benefits of 3D mammography include:
- Earlier detection of breast cancers
- Clearer lesion image
- Reduction in the number of unnecessary biopsies, minimizing patient anxiety and unnecessary costs
Patients who benefit from 3D mammography
If these situations fit your medical history, you may be a candidate for 3D mammography:
- Patients with previous mammograms with ambiguous or inconclusive results
- Patients with dense breast tissue
- Patients who have been previously called back for repeat breast scans
- Patients who underwent biopsies for suspicious masses or lesions in the past
- Patients with breast cancer or a family history of cancer
You can pre-register online or make online mammogram appointments. Complete the 10- to 20-minute forms at least two business days before your scheduled appointment. We also schedule Saturday and evening appointments.
Although physician referrals are not necessary, you may want to consult your physician to determine when to make mammography a part of your healthcare planning. Anyone can request a 3D screening mammogram. Physician referrals are not required.
