The Coliseum Cancer Institute will once again bring the Undy Run/Walk to Macon. The timed 5K run/walk will start Saturday, March 9 at 9 a.m. at the Mathews Fitness Center of Wesleyan College.
Racers are encouraged to wear underwear on the outside of their race attire as a tongue-in-cheek reference to the area on the body affected by colon cancer. Instead of a typical race day t-shirt, all registered participants receive a commemorative pair of Undy Run/Walk boxers.
The 2019 Macon Undy Run/Walk financially supports the efforts of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance to provide colon cancer screening and education to patients in Middle Georgia. The Undy Run/Walk will be held in cities across the country to educate the public about colon cancer, promote screenings and encourage people to talk about the disease.
It is a family-friendly event open to all ages. In addition to the 5K, there will be activities designed for children.
All survivors of colon cancer are encouraged to participate and will receive free registration. Starting at 8:40, all survivors will be recognized in a ceremony prior to the race. The course will begin and end at the Mathews Fitness Center on the campus of Wesleyan College. The course will be "stroller friendly" for participants who may wish to go at a slower pace.
Prizes will be awarded for all age groups. There will also be a prize for best costume.
Anyone wishing to participate in this family-oriented, fun event, can visit the official race website and choose "Macon" as their race location to register for the event. Race fees are $35 for anyone 14 or older and $30 for ages 6 to 13.
