Wound Care

Your Answer to Wound Healing

Our staff is a unique team of experienced doctors, nurses and therapists whose combined knowledge creates a multidisciplinary approach to wound management. We are dedicated to caring for people with wounds that have resisted traditional means of healing.

Working Together

Making the choice is the first important step in your treatment program. The center only treats wounds, so you will continue to consult your regular doctor for additional medical care. We will inform your doctor about your treatment program and the progress you are making. We are a group of specialists dedicated to solving a specific problem - the healing of your wound. Together with you and your doctor, we offer promise for wounds that are difficult to heal.

Preparing For Your First Visit

  1. Call (478)405-7996 for your appointment. When you call, you will be asked a few questions concerning your wound and your general health. Your visit will be scheduled at a convenient time and a staff member may call to verify your appointment.
  2. Make a list. Bring a list of current medications you are taking and any allergies you are aware of.
  3. Bring your records. This will include previous medical records you may have, x-rays if available, and any current insurance forms or cards to simplify your registration and requirements established by your specific insurance plan.

Your First Visit

Your primary care physician will recommend your acceptance to the center. Before beginning treatment, the wound healing doctors, nurses and therapists will evaluate your wound and review your medical history and general health. You may need to have special tests to provide us with important information about the flow of blood, tissue oxygenation and whether or not infection is complicating the healing process.

Your Treatment Program

Once your test results are in, our wound healing team, in concert with your primary care physician, will develop a treatment program based on your special needs. Your program will involve regular visits to the center to provide treatment, follow your progress or make necessary changes to your treatment program. You will also be instructed in-home wound care, dressing changes and ways to protect yourself from further injury.

You Are The Key In Your Treatment Program

Much of the success of your wound treatment depends on your level of commitment and participation. As an active member of your wound management team, you will need to follow directions carefully, watch your progress closely, and keep your appointments. Remember, your wound healing staff is available to answer any questions concerning your treatment program. If you have a wound that has not healed, consider seeking help from the hospital's wound healing center.

The methods employed by the center have established an impressive record of healing wounds that others thought hopeless, including many that might have required amputation. Carefully researched methods allow patients to receive state-of-the-art treatment of wounds that have resisted healing despite months, or even years of conventional treatment.
