Coliseum Northside Hospital Earns ‘Top Performer on Key Quality Measures’ Recognition from The Joint Commission For the Second Time
September 27, 2012
Macon, GA - Coliseum Northside Hospital is proud to announce that it was named one of the nation’s Top Performers on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America.
Coliseum Northside Hospital was recognized by The Joint Commission based on data reported about evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical care.
Coliseum Northside Hospital, part of Coliseum Health System, is one of only 620 hospitals in the U.S. earning the distinction of Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance. Coliseum Northside was recognized for its achievement on the following measure sets: Pneumonia and Surgical Care. The ratings are based on an aggregation of accountability measure data reported on The Joint Commission during the 2011 calendar year. The list of Top Performers increased by 50 percent from its debut last year and represents 18 percent of more than 3,400 eligible accredited hospitals reporting data.
This is the second year in a row that Coliseum Northside Hospital is being recognized as a Top Performer. It is one of only 244 hospitals that achieved the distinction for two consecutive years. Last year, Coliseum Northside Hospital was recognized by the Joint Commission for its achievement on the following measure sets: Heart Failure, Pneumonia, and Surgical Care.
To be recognized as a top performer on key quality measures, an organization must meet two 95 percent performance thresholds. First, they must achieve a composite performance of 95 percent or above after the results of all the accountability measures for which they report data to The Joint Commission. Second, they must meet or exceed a 95 percent performance target for each and every accountability measure for which they report data.
“We understand what matters most to patients at Coliseum Northside Hospital is safe, effective care. That’s why Coliseum Northside Hospital has made a commitment to accreditation and to positive patient outcomes through evidence –based care processes. Earning this distinction for the second year in a row proves that we focus heavily on positive outcomes,” says Mike Sherrod, CEO, Coliseum Northside Hospital.
In addition to being included in today’s release of The Joint Commission’s “Improving America’s Hospitals” annual report, Coliseum Northside Hospital will be recognized on The Joint Commission’s Quality Check website (www.qualitycheck.org).
